Dog needs a good home after surviving near-strangulation

Rosa Flores' 11 News report

Jasmine is an 8-month-old German Shepherd.

And even though she can’t tell her life story of abuse, the wounds around her neck say enough.

“She is very fortunate to have gotten away, because it was starting to strangle her,” Dr. Jackie Cole, a veterinarian, said. “As much work as I do with animals, even I had trouble with visions of this at night.”

Dr. Cole believes Jasmine’s owners put a three-inch rope collar around her neck when she was just weeks old and never loosened or changed it.

Jasmine has undergone multiple surgeries, and there is still an open wound under her neck.

Jasmine, a female German shepherd mix, had a rope tied around her neck so tightly that it cut through to her trachea. Jasmine was rescued by animal control officers on Thursday.

Animal control first spotted Jasmine on a busy street in Galveston.

Her face was so swollen, they thought she’d been hit by a car.

“Oddly enough, she has a good weight, and even has a good coat, so they fed her,” the Humane Society’s executive director said.

But even though she was fed, other forms of abuse are evident.

That’s why the Humane Society is offering $2,500 to anyone who can help police find her abusers.

If you would like to help Jasmine, contact the Galveston Humane Society at 409-740-1919 or www.galvestonhumane.org.

They’re hoping that neighbors will come forward and expose who treated the animal so poorly.

They also hope someone will offer Jasmine a safe and understanding home.

The people responsible for Jasmine’s abuse could face animal cruelty charges.

That means, at most, a $4,000 fine and a year in county jail.

If you have information on the abuse, contact Sgt. Joel Caldwell at 409-771-5520.
