An off-duty deputy on the way to work a funeral procession died Saturday in a motorcycle crash.

Deputy David Joubert, 60, was riding his motorcycle when he was reportedly cut off by a car on Cullen near Yellowstone in southeast Houston.

Joubert crashed into the car and was dragged at least half a block before it stopped.

Ralph Stewart was a passenger in the car that hit Joubert.

“Just bam! I mean, real hard. We thought it was a car,” Stewart said. “I got out and he says where is he, where is he, and they say he is under the car.”

Witnesses rushed to help.

“It had to be like 10 to 15 people, 10 to 15 people to life the car up,” Stewart said.

But despite their efforts, it was too late. Joubert was transported to Memorial Hermann in critical condition, where he later died.

Joubert is survived by his wife, Annette, and three children, Jessica, Tanya and David.

The HPD is investigating the incident.
