Safety shattered by bullets

Clarke Springs could be Anywhere, USA.

It’s full of kids riding their bikes and families strolling behind baby carriages.

But lately, neighbors say it’s been anything but safe.

Over the holidays there were three violent incidents in six days.

Police say a fight on one day may have led to bullets the next.

“Some guy came through with a car and just started shooting and bullets just flew everywhere and busted out the back of my vehicle,” Marsha Nuttall said.

Just a few days after that, more bullets tore through windows and sprayed holes in two homes.

Some residents of Reddy Lane fear for their safety.

When the shots fired at her home, Zdanka Moran dove to the floor with her baby.

“It went through this wall and to that wall,” she said. “I was on my couch and I hit the floor and I crawled to my baby.”

Luckily, they weren’t hit.  But her next door neighbors weren’t so fortunate.

“I’m fixing to move my kids away from the violence here,” Nuttall said.

She’s not the only one who’s ready to leave Reddy Lane.

Another family who didn’t want to appear on camera said their tires had been slashed and their car vandalized.  They’re moving out in two weeks.

“Saturday, the police ran in my garage with guns saying someone ran in here,” Nuttall said.

Both Nuttall and Moran say they don’t think their families were targeted.

Still, neighbors say they’re tired of the surprises, and that their sense of security has been shattered by the violence.
