Police seek man possibly posing as cop
08:36 AM CST on Wednesday, December 12, 2007
LEAGUE CITY — Police are investigating claims that a man pretending to be a city police officer pulled over drivers late at night on FM 646.
A woman told police a man driving a black Dodge Viper truck pulled her over and acted as if he were a police officer, League City police spokesman Sgt. John Jordan said. The man was not in uniform but was wearing a T-shirt with the word “police’ printed on it, he said.
Police have narrowed suspects down to a few people, Jordan said. Offers are fairly certain the suspect is a licensed peace officer, but it was unclear what law enforcement agency holds his license or if he’s employed, Jordan said.
An e-mail widely circulated around the area warns about the woman’s experience.
It says the woman wasn’t speeding and, when she asked the man why he pulled her over, he said he “wanted to see what kind of car she was driving.” Jordan said law enforcement officers had received the e-mail as well.
The man is described as a white male with medium brown hair, a small build and short stature between 45 and 50 years old, the e-mail said.
He was wearing camouflage pants, black boots and the black “police” T-shirt.
