Police believe the four suspects accused in the shooting death of a reserve deputy constable might be linked to other cases.

Deputy Carltrell Odom was gunned down in the parking lot of the apartment complex where he lived last week.

Police arrested and charged four suspects for the crime, one of whom is a juvenile.  All four were students at Jones High School.

The hallways at Jones were abuzz with news of the arrests Tuesday.

Alan Nickerson and Wallace Hightower, both 17, appeared before a judge last weekend, along with Damion Edwards, 18.

The fourth suspect, a 16-year-old, was referred to juvenile authorities.

Police plan to put the teens into lineups to see if they were involved in other violent crimes.

“You want to know why, you want to know what would make youngsters at that age take someone’s life,” Bernard Johnson said.

Johnson’s brother, Lynn, a tow truck driver and minister, was gunned down in June.

But now, tragedy has touched his family again.  Damion Edwards is his nephew.

Johnson says he understands firsthand the pain of losing a loved one to teen violence.

Back at Jones High, schoolmates are left only to wonder how the teens with so much promise could throw it all away.

All four teens are being held without bond.
