KHOU - TV
The man reportedly shot the intruder at his home in the 1200 block of West Hammond.
It happened Thursday afternoon in New Caney.
The wife was not at the home at the time and her husband, Gary Southwell, had just gotten out of the hospital after having open heart surgery.
Southwell was rolled out of his home after suffering from chest pains as a result of the shooting.
Police say Southwell shot the suspected burglar. The suspected thief was later identified as Rodney Shamlin. His record showed that he was convicted of theft 2 years ago. He’s also been convicted of DWI and child endangerment.
That man died at a nearby hospital.
Southwell says he was protecting his property.
The homeowner’s wife says thieves have hit their property several times in the past few weeks, stealing what little they have.
