Implosion video: Something is seen moving at time of blasts

11:16 AM CST on Saturday, November 17, 2007

By Vicente Arenas / 11 News

11 News anchor Vicente Arenas has actually seen what the mysterious video recorded.

The mystery surrounding the implosion of the Crowne Plaza in the Medical Center continues this weekend. The question: Was someone inside the building at the time it came crashing down?

On Friday, 11 News gained access to the home video that started the implosion investigation.

On the video, some sort of figure can be seen running inside the doomed structure. As a result, a bidding war has erupted for the video.

If you thought a door swinging shut during the implosion of the old Crowne Plaza Hotel was interesting, listen to what Anthony Hernandez saw on tape.

“Up above that, about five stories there's a figure that seems to run across the room just as the implosion begins. As a matter of fact as soon as there is an ignition this figure takes off across this room,” said Hernandez, a local attorney.

The room Hernandez mentioned was featured in a video of the hotel implosion shot by one of his friends.

"He was aghast, he stood back and said my gosh that's a man and he was wondering did I get this on film?” Hernandez said.

Indeed, something was caught on tape. And it was shot from a floor on Saint Luke's Medical tower across the street.

On the video, you can clearly see a figure move from left to right. But it’s impossible to know if it was a person or movement caused by the blasts.

Whatever the case, several news agencies from around the country have asked to purchase the video.

But it's not been sold. Hernandez says he's not sure what his client will do with the tape, but from what he's seen, he's believes someone was in there.

"I see this figure that's running through this room and immediately, I think there's a man left in that building,” he said.

The company carrying out the demolition has a video of the implosion on its Web site that shows the structure was empty.

It seemed to be clear before the blast.

Little did anyone know the crumbled concrete would give birth to a sensational search and mystery.
