Another weekend, another protest surrounding the immigration debate that’s been mounting in north Harris County.

The two sides faced off in Spring Saturday, where their angry shouts are beginning to annoy residents like Joe Jordan.

“All I want for them to do is to be a little quieter about it. If they want to yell, they can yell, but they don’t have to use a bull mike to do it,” Jordan said.

For weeks, the anti-illegal immigrant group U.S. Border Watch has openly kept an eye in the area after learning a day labor site may open there.

Both sides of the immigration debate rallied again Saturday in Spring.

And once again Saturday, members came out in full force.

“We are not racists, we are citizens of our group that believe in protecting the sovereignty of our nation and have members of every ethnic group in our membership,” Curtis Collier said.

U.S. Border Watch is also trying to put pressure on local business owners to stop hiring day laborers.

Activists who support illegal immigrant workers countered with their own signs.

“People who have been using workers for over 30 years in this area, so I don’t think everybody opposes the workers in this area,” activist Juan Alvarez said.

Both sides are vowing not to back down, even if it comes at the expense of the folks in the neighborhood.
