Poodle saves owner from pit bulls
11:20 AM CDT on Friday, June 8, 2007
It took just seconds for the fight against dangerous dogs to reach Ailona Garcia's front door. And the only thing standing between her and two charging pit bulls was her poodle.
Injured but healing, little Kaysee is a hero.
"It was terrible, it was terrible," said Garcia.
Two weeks ago, she says, her neighbor's pit bulls rushed at her and her sister while they stood in the driveway. Her sister fainted.
That's when Kaysee came to the rescue.
"Kasey saw my sister on the ground and she saw the pit bulls and she came right out and jumped at them into their mouth," said Garcia.
Saving her owner, but almost losing her life. The vet bills will top $900. But what frustrates Garcia -- police said nothing could be done.

Kaysee is still recovering from injuries caused by the pit bulls.
"And I even told that cop, 'You're telling me you have to wait for somebody to be attacked and probably be dead and that's when you're going to do something about it?'" said Garcia.
The law says a dog must attack a person before it can be declared dangerous. But in Houston, there is new room to maneuver.
"That is grounds for a hearing to determine whether that dog is dangerous or not," said Kent Robertson with BARC.
A new city ordinance lets Animal Control hold a hearing, to decide whether dogs should be restrained or even euthanized even if they haven't attacked a person.
And, that's what will happen here.

Kaysee's vet bills are approaching $900.
"I thank God it wasn't my sister that was attacked and I'm not happy about my puppy at all but I mean she went out and defended her owner," said Garcia.
In this case, mighty Kaysee may find justice, yet.
We were not able to reach the owner of those pit bulls. Animal Control did come out and take statements from witnessess.
