There is a new building going up at St. Anne’s Catholic School.

But directly across the street, just off Westheimer, a new business has many parents concerned for their children.

Parents at St. Anne Catholic School are upset that this business is operating near their children's school.

The store at the center of the controversy is French Kiss.

What parents like Mark O’Reilley don’t like is what the store, French Kiss sells…adult movies and novelties.

A city ordinance prohibits sexually oriented businesses or SOBs from operating within 1500 feet of a church or school.

But the store’s owner says his store is not an SOB, since he claims 50 percent of his store is not sexually oriented.

Parents like Chuzi Muoneke disagree. “It is not appropriate for children to be exposed to that kind of deal. You don’t want that around your kids…of course not.”

School officials are also looking into whether French Kiss is in violation of the city’s SOB ordinance.

Recently HPDs vice squad announced its cracking down on the city’s SOBs for not carrying a permit.

For now, French Kiss might fall into a gray area.

So says the city which is trying to figure out if it’s operating illegally.

“If it’s against the law it should not be here. That’s the bottom line,” said Paula Ferrari who is a parent.

That’s what St. Anne school parents are hoping.

“I wish they would change what they have in there or find a different spot,” said O’Reilley.
