For more than a week there have been serious questions and allegations surrounding a deadly police shooting.

Wednesday night, Houston’s police chief agreed to a meeting with concerned neighbors.

There is a dark cloud hovering over the community known as Sunnyside, where inside the Greater Lighthouse Church Wednesday, many expressed their concerns about the recent police shooting that killed one of their own.

Chief Harold Hurtt tried to reassure those gathered by saying the shooting would be fully investigated.

January 8th, just down the street from the church., Robert McIntosh was shot and killed by officer L.D. Smith, who claims he got into a scuffle and killed McIntosh in self defense.

Yolanda Perry the church’s first lady,  said McIntosh was handcuffed first and then shot three times.

Privately, HPD told 11 News reporter Jeff McShan that seven other witnesses have come forward to give statements  that back the officer’s story.

That has yet to be confirmed.

But sources go on to say that science will eventually prove who was right and who was wrong.

“Not every detail but most significant details can be determined,” said Alex Jason.

Jason is a senior crime scene analyst who has testified in many trials including one here in Texas.

He is a gunshot reconstructionist who says McIntosh’s body will be examined carefully.

“Well one of the things to look at in cases like this is the distance involved and the distance can be determined by the distribution The presence or absence, the distribution of gun shot residue, and there are varied forms of gun shot residue and that can help determine whether the gun was placed close to the body or far from the body for example,” said Jason.

That is important to see if the science, the math adds up with Mrs. Perry’s story.

Regardless, this shooting is under investigation. Not only by the ME’s office and HPD, but by the Harris County district attorney’s office and the FBI.

The dark cloud remains for now.
