Some roads are reopening Tuesday morning as dry conditions hang around for the first part of the day.

According to the Harris County Toll Road Authority, the following interchanges are now open:

•Eastbound Westpark flyover to U.S. 59 northbound

•Fort Bend Parkway from the Sam Houston Tollway to Highway 90A (South Main)

•Direct connector from southbound Grand Parkway to eastbound Westpark Toll Road

Officials said since the chances of precipitation are 70 percent for the evening, crews remain on standby to close these or other ramps.

They will keep spraying all elevated structures and interchanges in the system.

When the morning commute is over, TxDOT will apply liquid magnesium to bridges. Officials said the anti-icer may eliminate the need to sand roadways.

Early preparations

Officials got a head start Monday sanding a highway exchange that becomes notoriously dangerous in icy weather.

The trucks got started around 3 p.m. loading up supplies at the Highway 290 and Sam Houston Tollway exchange in an effort to prevent any buildup of freezing precipitation on the road.

Officials are focusing on the overpasses because when the temperature drops below freezing, both sides of the road are exposed, allowing for a potentially quick buildup of ice.
