Nature seems to be saying late summer, but by Thursday what starts around 80 will drop like an ice cube.

The change may come blasting through as it did a couple of weeks ago.

“Storm con is Centerpoint Energy’s internal code words for ‘Get ready. Something is going to happen,’” said Mike Boone with Centerpoint.

Already Centerpoint said it is at Storm Con 1 and like the Defense Department it has a code for the threat.

It also has one for damage.

SEARCH gives out coats, blankets as cold weather moves into Houston.

A couple weeks ago it hit the max, Trouble Level 7.

The people from Search are already trying to reach those with the least defense against cold.

The blankets are only meant for an emergency.

They’ll have to be enough for the city’s homeless.

“It’s real hard to house people or get them into a GED program or get them a job if they haven’t made it through the winter,” said Don Hall with SEARCH.

They said they are short on food and blankets and jackets.

But they say they will hand out the last one.

James Hairgrow said that if it gets really bad he will try to find shelter. “I didn’t plan on staying up under here that long anyway.”

For now at least he and some others have the first defense.
