04:24 PM CDT on Monday, October 16, 2006
Part of a parking garage collapsed Monday afternoon behind an old Houston hotel that is under renovation.
It happened at the old Plaza Suite Hotel at Montrose near Bissonnet.
According to an HFD official, the top three and a-half floors of a cinder block wall that was being built to enclose the garage, collapsed into the sixth floor courtyard of the building in front of it.
He said wind definitely caused it.
The wall of the parking garage crumbled, but no one is believed to have been injured.

Part of the wall of this parking garage collapsed due to winds.
“We have no reports of anybody missing but there’s a huge chunk up there, We can’t see underneath it and we’re not going to leave here until we look underneath it,” said District Fire Chief Tommy Dowdy.
Dowdy also said that if anyone had been in the courtyard, there could have been serious injuries.
The hotel is under renovation to be made into doctors’ offices.
