Police release IDs of dead men found on beach
12:19 PM CDT on Sunday, August 13, 2006
GALVESTON — Police on Friday released the names of two men found dead on the beach Wednesday morning.
A woman walking the beach in Galveston Island State Park west of 13 Mile Road spotted a man’s nude body in the surf about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, with a kitchen knife in his chest.
On Thursday, officials identified that body as San Antonio resident Eleazar Lugo, 32. Police withheld the name until Friday, when they contacted his next of kin.

A tow truck removes the car in which a dead body was found in the trunk.
Also on Wednesday, police found a car they believed the dead man had been driving. Inside the trunk was another dead body, clothed, with a single gunshot wound to the head.
The man found in the trunk was Levi Duty, 23. Duty was a resident of Cookeville, Tenn. The car, registered to a Hertz car-rental business in Salt Lake City, had been rented in Duty’s name, police said.
Police spokesman Lt. Joe Peña said investigators had received preliminary autopsy results from the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office. While detectives Friday were treating the case as a homicide, Peña said even the preliminary autopsy results were not enough to make police comfortable to say the deaths were definitely homicides, suicides or even connected.
“We still have a lot of information we need to follow up on,” he said. “Investigators are still processing the car, and we’re following paper trails.”
One of the few things officials would say for certain was that Duty had been dead longer than Lugo, who had been dead for less than 12 hours when he was found.
Police asked anyone with information about the case to call the criminal investigation division at 409-765-3760.
