Possible suspect in serial murders released
07:50 PM CDT on Sunday, July 23, 2006
A man who was arrested for assaulting a family member was also questioned as a possible suspect in the murders in the Acres Homes area and released overnight Saturday. KHOU-TV A composite sketch of the suspected serial killer in Acres Homes. The man was picked up on a family disturbance charge Saturday morning at the residence he shares with his sister. The arrest for the assault happened in front of his sister and her grandchildren. Qunicy Daughtry, his sister, said police took her car into evidence to search for clues. She described the whole scene as “disturbing”, especially, she said, because police have the wrong man. The arrest took place at about 10 a.m. in front of a northwest Houston home. Daughtry said her brother is not a serial killer. “He’s here with me 24/7 and he don’t go anywhere. He hangs around the house. He’s always here with me. He don’t have no transportation to get anywhere, so I’m just positive my brother didn’t do this,” Daughtry said. Family members said the man didn’t even look like police sketches because he is too short, too thin and too old. They also said that even though he has a tattoo on one arm, police need to take a closer look. “It’s on the wrong arm, it’s on the wrong arm. Plus, he don’t have tattoos on his back. This guy is only five feet tall, the guy they’re looking for is 5 feet 8 to six feet tall, “ said family friend Michael Reed. The man has not been charged in connection with the serial killing. But family members fear police may rush to judgment and put an innocent man behind bars. He was being questioned Saturday night, but police did not want to release his name or his photograph because they feared it would taint their investigation, which is still in its early stages and ongoing.
