People, pets rescued from waterlogged neighborhood

Mother trades her car for a raft to get her children to dry land in southeast Houston

Parts of southeast Houston flooded by Monday's rain were accessible only by boat.

Residents on Freeway Monor found themselves imprisoned by high water.

Several hours of rain have taken its toll on southeast Houston and the City of South Houston.

The City of South Houston police chief, Monday traded his gun for a mop.

He had to clean up the several inches of water that seeped into his police station.

Rising waters at the nearby neighborhood of Freeway Manor, South of the City of South Houston on Highway 3, residents could only get around by boats.

This grateful puppy rewarded 11 News reporter Janice Williamson with a kiss.

Some of the cars in that area were almost totally submerged.

Some homes have several inches of rain inside.

An 11 News crews touring the area by boat were able to help a woman with a broken elbow get to dry land.

That woman, who said she was terribly scared, had a little dog and four kittens in a box.

Residents said officials had not shown up in their area to help.

They said their salvation were neighbors helping neighbors.

Those same residents are hoping Mother Nature doesn't dump anymore water, because their area is totally soaked.
