Surveillance video shows man collapse after shooting death
05:51 PM CDT on Wednesday, May 24, 2006
Houston police are asking for the public’s help finding the suspect in a fatal shooting. KHOU-TV Surveillance video captured the incident. The shooter killed 26-year-old Jose Perez as he walked through a restaurant parking lot with his family last Friday in the 8300 block of the Gulf Freeway. Surveillance video captured the incident. The victim’s widow made a desperate plea for help. “He was a real good husband a real good dad,” Norma Perez said. They were married for five years. Last Friday night the Perez family went out for what was supposed to be a nice night of dinner and music. In a matter of seconds that all changed when the family left the restaurant. “He just came up real close to him and starting shooting and shooting,” Perez said. Surveillance video shows Jose Perez moments after he secured his 6-month-old son in the back of the family’s car. His 4-year-old daughter was standing just feet from her dad as he is gunned down by a man in a brown shirt. “It appears that it was an unproved attack,” said Sergeant J.W Belk, HPD Homicide. “We speculated as to whether it was an initiation by a gang the suspect being initiated and kills just to get credit for a kill or it’s a mistaken identity.” None of it makes any sense to Norma Perez who only wants what she can’t have: her husband back. “I want that person to see my husband’s face when they eat, when they go to sleep when he wakes up I want him to see my husband’s face,” she said. If you have information on the suspects, you could be eligible for a $15,000 reward. Call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. You don’t have to give your name. Houston police said the shooter got into a two-door late 1970’s model burgundy Monte Carlo. Officers said there were two others in that car.
