Serial killing suspect's lawyer has explanation for DNA match

HPD calls Edward George McGregor a serial killer who they believe murdered at least three women. KHOU-TV Edward George McGregor's attorney said there is an explanation for why his client's DNA was linked to the 1990 murder of Kim Waldman. Nevertheless McGregor walked out of the Fort Bend County jail Monday after his bond had been reduced from $1 million to $250,000. Working with HPD, Missouri City police recently announced that they had linked McGregor's DNA with the 1990 murder of Kim Wildman. Missouri City police were ecstatic about the match. But McGregor's attorney, Don Bankston, told a judge and 11 News that the DNA can be explained. "They thought they had a slam-dunk with DNA evidence and we demonstrated why there was a reasonable reason why it was there, because he lived next door to her and had a relationship with her, and had been with her earlier that evening," said Bankston. Perhaps it is one reason why the bond was lowered. Another might be that when Waldman called 911 about the brutal attack, she said she did not know the person who attacked her. "So if it would have been him that did this dastardly crime, I think it's reasonable for her to say, 'Hey the neighborhood kid living two doors down did it or yes I know who did it', " said Bankston. Fast-forward nearly 16 years later when Mandy Rubin and then Danielle Subjects were both murdered. Both women were found in their apartments naked in their own bathtubs. Both women knew McGregor, they had his cell phone number in their phones. And he lived close. "I grew up in Dallas, I was at Dealey Plaza. I was at Dealey Plaza when john Kennedy was killed. In 1968 I was at the Ambassador hotel when Robert Kennedy was killed. That would be like saying I was a prime suspect in both of those cases. That's how weak HPD's smear, what they've done to the gentleman is," Bankston said. Some conditions of his release are that he must wear an electronic monitor and can only go to work and his home.
