NEW YORK — If you were hoping to get a pair of Apple's new AirPods to sync with your headphone jack-less iPhone 7, you're going to have to wait.
According to TechCrunch, Apple has delayed the release of its new wireless earbuds. No reason was given.
Apple told the news site, "We don’t believe in shipping a product before it’s ready, and we need a little more time before AirPods are ready for our customers.”
Apple was not immediately available for comment.
At the iPhone 7 announcement last month, the company said the $159 earbuds would be available in "late October."
Apple had provided pre-production AirPods to tech reviewers to test alongside iPhone 7, with several praising the earbuds even though their design is a bit jarring. USA TODAY's Ed Baig found they "sounded quite good and were a breeze to pair and charge."
It remains to be seen if Apple clarifies the delay tomorrow, when it is scheduled to announce updated MacBooks, including one with a new touchscreen row above the keyboard.
