The next team on our college football preview is Sam Houston.
After three years of making it to the FCS playoffs, the Bearkats are officially in a transition period.
They have a new coach and lots of familiar faces are gone but Sam Houston looks to stay a contender in the Southland Conference.
Bearkat fans were used to seeing number #20 running into the end-zone a lot over the past couple of years, but Tim Flanders is now with the Saints. Brian Bell has also departed but new coach K.C. Keeler is confident his new offense could be very explosive.
Running back Keshawn Hill will be the focal point but he has been limited during camp in order to ensure that he's fully healthy.
Sophomore Jarred Johnson has been named the starting quarterback after winning the off-season competition which everyone says made him a better player.
According to Coach Keeler, the Bearkats have 18 new starters from when they took the field for the spring game earlier this year.
The team has 4 returning starters on a defense which has to replace several players. Sam Houston also lost 8 of their top tacklers from last year so there is planet of room for new faces to become familiar to the Sam Houston faithful.
The Bearkats will kick-off the FCS season with a game on Eastern Washington on August 23. Their first home game is the following week against Alabama State.
The Kats do play two games here in Houston, once against SFA on November 1st and against HBU on November 15th.
