HOUSTON -- A 25-year-old man was killed Wednesday night in a crash that shut down the outbound lanes of the Katy Freeway, Houston police said.
The incident happened in the 10600 block of the freeway near Beltway 8.
According to investigators with the Houston Police Department, the man was driving his Chevrolet pickup at a high rate of speed in the freeway's westbound emergency lane.
The pickup struck another vehicle that was stopped, which was apparently part of a street sweeping crew. A worker was seriously injured and was taken to Ben Taub Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The pickup driver's identity was not released.
All westbound lanes of the freeway were closed for several hours overnight, opening in time for the morning rush hour.
