HOUSTON - Five separate accidents involving ten vehicles happened late Friday on the North Freeway at Cypresswood, causing the freeway to be shut down for hours.
The first accident happened around 11:45 p.m. with a single motorcyclist. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
As the motorcycle accident was being cleared, a car stalled on the entrance ramp. When the driver got out to push the car out of the way, a car coming up the ramp did not see him and hit him. He was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
The Spring Fire Department responded to the second accident and parked on the shoulder of the freeway with lights on, when around 12:30 a.m. a drunk driver hit the back of the Spring Fire Chief's car and then hit the ambulance in front of the chief's car. There were no injuries but the driver was arrested.
The fourth accident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. when a woman in a car in the lane next to the ambulance accident decided to slow down and look at the scene. The driver behind her slammed into the back of her car. No injuries were reported.
The fifth and final accident involved a car that struck the back of an SUV. It was minor and quickly moved.
