AUSTIN -- Work kicked off Wednesday on a new community that will become home to many homeless Austin residents.

A groundbreaking ceremony for Mobile Loaves and Fishes' Community First Village was held Wednesday morning. The 27-acre village will provide provide affordable and sustainable housing.

The housing project will include a mix of affordable housing options, places for worship and fellowship, a memorial garden, a community garden, a chicken operation, bee hives producing fresh honey, a fish operation, a workshop with a tool bank and art gallery, a medical facility for physical and mental health screenings and support services, walking trails, an outdoor theater, a bed and breakfast and wireless internet. The community is also within walking distance to various public transportation options.
