SAN ANTONIO -- Bexar County officials say a man popping fireworks confessed to accidentally starting a massive a brush fire in the southeast part of the county.

According to County spokeswoman Laura Jesse, the fire started around 5 p.m. at the 21-year-old's house in the 17800 of Old Corpus Christi Highway. The flames spread like wildfire.

In fact, Jesse says 80 to 100 acres were burnt. The fire even came dangerously close to global chemical distributor, Brenntag.

The railroad in the area was shut down. Firefighters were flown into the area via AirLife to help with the strategy to battle the fire.

On the ground, multiple fire departments fought the huge brush fire for more than an hour.

Two vacant structures were destroyed but no one was injured or evacuated. The man behind the fire was not arrested. Investigators have decided if this rises to criminal activity.

"There is a state law that's relatively new past within the five years," she said. "If you set a fire and it burns a structure or harms someone physically. You could be charged with arson."

The fire was 90 percent contained by 10 p.m. Sunday night.
