HOUSTON (AP) - Records show a private bus company involved in a crash that caused minor injuries to Houston middle School students wasn't authorized by the state to be on the road.

Texas Department of Motor Vehicles spokesman Adam Shaivitz told the Houston Chronicle that they will investigate Nancy's Bus Service.

According to state records and Shaivitz, the Houston company is not registered with the state as required. Its registration was revoked in 2009 because it was not insured. A phone number for the company could not be located.

The bus was taking students to Revere Middle School in southwest Houston Tuesday when it hit a tree. Houston police said 18 students and the driver were hospitalized.

Police say the driver told investigators a mechanical failure caused the bus to veer left.
