PASADENA, Texas – There's new information about how a young girl managed to get locked inside a running washing machine at a Pasadena laundry mat.

It's the day after at Le's Washateria, and mothers still can't believe it.

"A 5-year-old?" said Maria Silva. "Oh my goodness! We come, we have to keep an eye on our clothes and our children."

Police say no one was watching, not even mom, when a 5-year-old girl got locked in a washer.

"She spun around for several minutes, at a high speed, tumbling pretty fast," said Pasadena Police spokesman Vance Mitchell. "It was pretty bad."

The little girl went round and round on a ride she won't soon forget.

"They saw someone flopping around in there, but they thought it was just a dress because it was moving really fast," said Mitchell.

And now police are saying how she got there in the first place.

Pasadena Police say the little girl was playing with another girl in the washateria.

The 5-year-old crawled into a washer that was supposed to be out of order. Her friend accidentally locked the door.

Detectives though, still aren't sure just how the rinse cycle started. But thanks to a fast acting employee who quickly cut the breaker to stop it, the girl survived.

"I would say she's a very fortunate young lady," said Mitchell.

Customers are shocked, but not surprised. They say kids run wild in there all the time.

"It's not their fault, it's the parents fault," said long time customer Maria Romero. "They're running around, they don't listen, just don't listen. The kids run around and bump into you and your clothes."

But after last night's crazy spin things are different. Little ones inside Le's Washateria helped mom with the laundry, instead of accidentally becoming a part of the next load.

"That's going to make me have more of a watchful eye on them," said Silva.

The little girl was pretty banged up, but is expected to recover. Pasadena Police do not expect to file any charges in this case.
