HOUSTON - Margarita Reyna had just started her shift about 7 a.m. Saturday at Subway on Mangum and Dacoma when she saw a man showing Houston police the dumpster area.
Police said the man led them to "evidence" after someone told authorities about 8 a.m. to check an abandoned house in the 600 block of Martin Luther King in Texas City where they would find a man dead.
Texas City officers checked and found a man dead.
"He was good-hearted," said George Gamble, who identified himself as the deceased man's brother. He said his name was Lindsey and was 62 years old.
Just yards away from the house where he was found is a convenience store where friends say he often hung out. They say the whole town knew Lindsey and they are shocked and saddened by his death.
"He ain't known for trouble, you know? Lindsey don't get in no--matter fact, he ain't gone harm a flea," said June Jackson.
"He gone talk noise, do his thing, but I mean, the most lovable guy. Give you the shirt off his back, you know? Aww man," said Lloyd Grissom.
Meanwhile on Houston's northwest side, the man who led authorities to some evidence, was being held for questioning in connection with the stabbing of a cab driver. The stabbing happened near the corner of Antoine and 34th in northwest Houston sometime overnight. Police recovered a knife and learned the attacker did not carry out the assault from the back seat.
"He was actually in the passenger seat but I have no other details as to why he stabbed the guy or what occurred inside that car," said HPD Officer Michael Walding.
The cab driver survived and went to the hospital.
Whatever happened in the taxi in northwest Houston and whatever happened in the abandoned Texas City house, it all leaves Margarita Reyna feeling a little helpless.
"Well, it's sad. What can we do?" she said.
Right now what two different police departments are doing, is questioning the man who they said led them to some evidence, a man authorities still have not identified. They are thoroughly investigating to make sure whoever is responsible, faces charges and prosecution.
