HOUSTON – A 49-year-old woman died Wednesday in a southwest Houston house fire.

The fire broke out around 10 a.m. in the 11000 block of English Rose Lane in the Royal Oaks Country Club.

Houston firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames shooting from the two-story home.

The victim was found in a bedroom on the second floor.

Two other people who were inside the house safely escaped the fire.

Houston Fire Department officials said the fire was moving fast.

"When we arrived on location, there was heavy smoke and fire throughout the structure," HFD Capt. RuyLozano said. "Historically, most fire victims don't die from burns, they die from smoke inhalation. As you know those combustive gases always rise, and on a second floor structure, second floor is most dangerous because it's where those gases will accumulate."

Arson investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze.
