HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- A 19-year-old man who was going into the service in just two days was killed overnight in a rollover crash, deputies near Katy said early Wednesday.
The incident happened on Morton Road at Redgum Drive around midnight.
Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office said the teen was traveling westbound when, according to witnesses, his pickup had a blowout. The driver lost control and skidded sideways, smashing into a tree and flipping.
The driver died at the scene. His passenger suffered minor injuries.
Witnesses said the teen was driving about 80 miles per hour at the time of the crash.
According to deputies, the teen was just two days away from joining the military. His identity was not released as of early Wednesday morning.
