Crews have officially called off the search for a missing man, the captain of a fishing boat that capsized near Cedar Bayou Monday afternoon.
Crews removed the boat and recovered the man's body pinned under water. KHOU spoke with one of the survivors of the accident.
Mr. Lopez, the deck hand on board the fishing boat that capsized, waits and watches for any sign of a rescue.
"The family is crying," said Lopez.
Lopez was on board with the captain and the captain's daughter and son, a family he has worked with for sixteen years.
He said the heavy rain and strong wind overturned the boat while he was standing on the hull with his captain's son, the daughter trapped underneath and the captain, nowhere to be found. Lopez' bandaged and wounded hands show what he did next;
"I broke the window to get out , but the water pulled the boat," said Lopez.
"His daughter stayed on the boat for three hours. They cut the metal to pull her out," said Lopez.
A port of Houston Fireboat boatcrew saved the son, Mr. Lopez and the daughter trapped inside, and had to use jaws of life to get her out.
"Triste," said Lopez.
All he could do was watch as the missing man's father and family searched for the captain of the boat, thankful for his life, but sad that one was lost.
