HOUSTON - The Houston Fire Department has many heroes. Beginning this month, KHOU.com will share every day stories from the HFD with our readers to recognize acts of bravery while on the job.

Our first heart-warming recognition came to us about Fire Fighter EMT Clayton Neal from Station 42. In his 11th year of service to the department, Neal was assigned to an apartment fire with the responsibility of assisting anyone trapped inside or having difficulties.

When a panicked resident notified the fire fighters that his dog was missing, Neal sprang into action. He found the puppy wet and afraid and quickly returned it to its very thankful owner.

It is these seemingly small acts of kindness that make Houstonians and their communities grateful for all of the work the department does every day.
