HOUSTON—A water main that feeds Hobby Airport broke around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning and shut down water for bathroom sinks, drinking fountains and some restaurants, officials said in a statement released Tuesday.
"A water main break, located along Airport Blvd. and Broadway, has halted the flow of water throughout the William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) property. Repair crews are on-site and working to address the situation but a permanent fix is not expected to be in place until approximately 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m."
Throughout the day airport staff gave out hand sanitizer and bottled water. The outage did not cause any flight delays or other issues, beyond the problem inside the terminal.
"We are getting bottled water and bottled drinks to the passengers," said Bill Begley with the Houston Airport System. "Trying to do everything we can to minimize the impact on our passengers and visitors, they can still use the bathroom facilities, we just have use hand sanitizers, instead of washing it at the sink."
Airport officials said the outage was not related to the ongoing construction and that the water main along Airport Boulevard simply gave out.
