BROWNSVILLE, Texas -- A 220-pound black bear named Oscar has been recaptured after climbing out of his South Texas zoo exhibit and slipping into a pool with some seals.
An official with the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville on Tuesday said Oscar will remain out of public view until repairs are made to the bear grotto.
Cynthia Galvan says nobody was hurt and the zoo was locked down, with visitors moved into buildings, during Monday's incident.
Galvan says a visitor reported seeing Oscar dig his claws into cracks in the grotto's concrete wall. Oscar was already out when staff arrived, but was contained within 15 minutes.
Staffers waited for Oscar to leave the pool before using a dart to tranquilize him in the escape lasting about 90 minutes.
