HOUSTON -- A driver allegedly told police he was sleepy, causing him to crash into the back of a patrol car on the Katy Freeway early Thursday.
The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. near the exit for Eldridge Parkway.
The officer involved was blocking two westbound lanes because of an early crash. As they were waiting for wreckers to clear the scene, a minivan with an older man behind the wheel slammed into the rear of the patrol car.
The officer inside was sent to the hospital with minor injuries.
The van's driver told officers he was tired and may have dozed off.
The driver was taken in for a blood draw, but officers do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
