HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- Deputy constables surrounded the home after an armed woman who complained of on-going construction near her Channelview-area home, officials said Thursday afternoon.
The standoff began around noon Thursday in the 200 block of Lakeside Drive in east Harris County.
"I knew she was going to be on the news eventually," said neighbor Ralph King.
Views from Air 11 showed the woman, identified by neighbors as Eleoise Adcock, on her back porch with a shotgun for more than an hour.
Precinct 3 deputy constables surrounded the home. They said at one point the woman pointed her gun at workers and then at the first deputy on the scene. And it wasn't the first time. Construction workers told deputies she'd pointed the gun at them before.
"She's hard to get along with," said King. "It's her way or no way."
Officials said the woman was complaining of construction and noise next to her property.
"Today she got a little more excited and angry about it," said HCSO Deputy Thomas Gilliland.
Neighbors said Adcock's been upset about construction for years. She's lived in the same house for 46 years and she has the only home remaining. Barge construction companies surround her small house.
"She just doesn't want to sell," said King. "Her husband built that house. That's where she wants to stay."
The standoff came to an end after 1 p.m. when deputies approached the home and surrounded the woman on her porch. Adcock was taken into custody without incident.
She was taken away in an ambulance to get checked out.
"It's a little nerve-wracking," said Sharlene Hathorn, a neighbor just a few doors down. "We've got a lot of elders around here and mommas with babies."
Deputies say she will undergo a mental health evaluation. HCSO says they don't expect to file charges.
