HOUSTON—An impatient driver is in trouble with the law after police say she struck a Harris County Precinct 6 Deputy Constable with her truck.

It happened Thursday morning as traffic backed up in both directions on McGallion Road near Tidwell.

The constable was directing traffic at a KIPP campus, and parents were dropping off kids when police say the driver of a silver pickup truck pulled out of her lane. They say she then drove into oncoming traffic, telling the constable she needed to be somewhere.

Officer Timothy Vaca with the Houston Police Department said the constable then ordered the driver to stop.

"They refused to follow directions," Officer Vaca said. "They kept going..."

The driver struck the constable in the leg and knocked her over. She was taken to the hospital to be checked out.

The driver never even stopped.

"If you're in that big a hurry where you have to jeopardize other people's lives, you need to get out from behind the wheel and stay at home," Jim Walters, who lives across the street.

An impatient driver struck a constable and knocked her over, then fled

Investigators say they know who the driver is and she will face multiple charges.

"Give 'em free room and board for about the next month at the county's expense," Walters said.
