HOUSTON - A motorcyclist is dead after a car swerved across the freeway, slammed into the back of the motorcycle and fled.

The 21-year-old motorcyclist died at the scene. His friend who was riding with him waited at the scene for police.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, a Dodge Challenger was driving very fast westbound on 1-10 and suddently swerved from the far left lane across two lanes and hit the motorcycle. It is believed that the driver may have been trying to exit the freeway and didn't see the motorcycle.

The suspect kept going a couple of miles, then jumped out and abandoned the car on the side of the freeway. HPD is investigating. Contact HPD if you have any information at 713-247-4065.
