HOUSTON - An assault suspect was in custody and escaped after he took off runnning at W. Tidwell and Lost Forest.

On Sunday around 1:20 a.m., an HPD unit responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex and ended up hand-cuffing a man as part of an assault investigation.

The officer had the suspect next to his car when another fight broke out between a man and woman across the parking lot from the officers.

This drew their attention and when officer turned away, the suspect in cuffs took off running. He managed to slip away and the officer initially lost him.

A resident told police officers she saw a man in hand cuffs running toward the back of the apartments. They set up a perimeter and with the help of a K-9 unit, they found the suspect and re-arrested him.

He now faces escape charges on top of the other charges.
