METAIRIE, La. -- A mother and father are behind bars after they passed out from doing heroin in a parked car in Metairie, according to deputies. Their two young children were in the car with them at the time.
It happened Sunday afternoon near the intersection of Bonnabel Avenue and Veterans Boulevard.
The parents apparently had a bad reaction to the heroin and passed out, said Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Col. John Fortunato. Their 4-year-old boy and 11-month-old boy were inside of the car with them at the time.
People passing by became concerned when they saw the couple passed out in the car, so they called the sheriff's office.
Deputies were able to wake up the parents and place them under arrest. They face charges of endangering a child, having drugs and paraphernalia in the presence of a child, and possession of heroin, among other charges.
The sheriff's office says they will release the name of the mother and father later Sunday.
The two children were taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons, but Fortunato said they didn't suffer any injuries.
The restaurant that they were parking in front of was closed, Fortunato said.
