HOUSTON -- After a four-and-a-half-hour standoff, deputies say a husband shot and killed himself.
The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. in the 9500 block of Homeland Drive in the Keegans Wood subdivision.
Deputies said a couple got into a fight over property. The husband allegedly grabbed his rifle and shot his wife in the shoulder. His wife was found laying in the front yard yelling and screaming.
The couples' four children were in the home during the shooting.
"I heard two loud gunshots," said Nail Hardy, a neighbor.
"It was loud, I heard it," said a little boy.
Several neighbors were forced to leave their home after the suspect barricaded himself in the house. Some neighbors drove around and others watched the drama unfold in front of them.
"They are telling us to get out of the house and leave there might be gun shots," said Kevin Bermudez, a neighbor. "A friend came over to the house and told me to get up that something happened behind our house, some guy with a gun."
Neighbor Johnathan Bermudez was so nervous that he left work early to be with his mother and younger brother.
"It's extremely scary, it's right behind my house," said Bermudez. "If it's happening in my own backyard, the next thing it could happen in my front yard."
The wife was taken to a nearby hospital and expected to be OK. As for the children, investigators said they may have witnessed their mother getting shot.
