HOUSTON - An off-duty HPD officer was jumped and beaten in a downtown-area parking lot, according to police.

Shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday, the officer was working with and helping his wife who was a parking lot attendant for a lot on Hadley and Fannin.

A black male approached the officer in civilian clothes and told him that his car was damaged and to come over and look at it. When they reached the vehicle, one or two more black males began punching and hitting him in the head and kicking him on the ground.

The suspects were attempting to rob the officer and his wife of the parking lot money but the officer pulled his weapon and shot one time at the suspects, after alerting them that he was an officer.

He did not hit anything or anyone, and the three suspects fled on foot and got away.
