HOUSTON – One man is dead after a bizarre sequence of events led to shooting outside a west Houston home early Sunday, police said.
According to the Houston Police Department, it started around 2 a.m. when a husband and wife got into an argument a party in the 6300 block of South Gessner.
Investigators said the wife then got into her car and drove away, but she lost control of her vehicle and crashed a few blocks down the road.
The woman had some cuts and bruises, but police detectives said they were not sure if they came from the fight with her husband or the car accident.
A homeowner nearby was woken up by the sound of the crash, and armed with a gun, went outside to investigate, police said. That is when he found the woman.
The homeowner began to render aid and also called 911, police said.
When the husband saw the accident, he ran down the street toward her, police said.
However, when the homeowner saw the husband running down the street, he yelled at him to stop, police said. The husband kept going and appeared to have something in his hand.
The homeowner, fearing for his life and the safety of the woman, pulled his gun and shot the husband once, police said.
The husband was transported Southwest Memorial Hermann Hospital where he later died, police said. The wife was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
The homeowner was taken into custody for further questioning. Police said the case would be referred to a grand jury.
