HOUSTON A search is underway for a mother who disappeared over the weekend in northwest Houston.

Blanca Pena, 43, was supposed to show up for work on Saturday, but never made it.

When police arrived at her home, they found blood, as well as signs of a forced entry.

About a dozen volunteers gathered Monday morning in the 1200 block of Veterans Memorial. They said there was no specific tip that brought them, but it is close to Pena s home and it seemed like an obvious place to start, based on their experience.

Equusearch began to canvas the area on Sunday.

We know this is the last place that she was seen, said Tim Miller, with Equusearch. We always start at the last place they were seen and then kind of spread out from there. So we re looking at areas that are convenient to dump somebody, where you can t be seen, where people dump trash.

Equusearch became involved within about 24 hours of Pena s disappearance and Miller said time is on theirside with this search.

Investigators have not named any suspects.
