Every few years we see a story about Action Comics No. 1, the first-ever Superman comic, hitting the auction block. Since so few copies of the 1938 book exist, it always fetches big bucks.

In a couple weeks Action Comics No. 1 reappears, only this time almost anyone can bid. Starting Aug. 14, a copy will be auctioned on eBay. It's expected to sell for more than $2 million.

Aside from the very public eBay angle, this auction is notable because it's the most pristine copy in existence (that we know of). As the item description notes, "this is the only known copy with 'perfect white' pages."

Right now you can head to ebay.com/action-comics to get pre-qualified to bid, watch an interesting video about the issue and see a list of other historic comics on eBay that perhaps you can afford.

A portion of the auction's proceeds will benefit the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. I'll keep you posted on the outcome.
