HOUSTON, Texas - The Private Space Company Space-X has soft landed a rocket stage in the Atlantic Ocean after it flew to space.
It happened on July 22. Video shows the legs of the Falcon 9 first stage returning to earth after deploying six ORBCOMM satellites unfurling and the craft dropping with no impact into the ocean.
The next test will be on land.
The company says that the future of space flight is the ability to reuse both capsules and rockets with little to no refurbishment like the Space Shuttle was used.
Dragon is the reusable capsule that Space-X has now launched several times to carry supplies to the International Space Station. It hopes that the human rated version of the capsule will be ready to take astronauts to the ISS in the next few years.
