PASADENA, Texas A person of interest has named in the death of a woman who was found burned in the woods, according to the Pasadena Fire Marshal.

Firefighters discovered Rocio Montoya s burned body when they responded to a grass fire just after 5 a.m. Monday in a field in the 6600 block of Olsen at Crestford.

A neighbor on his way to work noticed flames and called 911. Investigators quickly realized it was more than just a fire.

(The) fire department responded and they extinguished the fire and they realized there was a female body that had been burned at that location, said Vance Mitchell with the Pasadena Police Department. Apparently the body had been ignited and the grassy area around her burned.

Montoyadied from strangulation and blunt force trauma to the head, according to the medical examiner s office.Her body was found in a field a short distance from where her family resided.

Investigators said Jose Noriega had a child together with Montoya. He was married to another woman.

Noriega was named as a person of interest; he was later arrested and charged in the murder.
