ALEDO, Texas The week after the bullying controversy felt a lot like the weeks before
The Aledo Bearcats look like a team that s virtually unstoppable. They scored fast, early, and often. Again.
A week after shutting out Western Hills 91-0, they put up 42 points in the first half against Fort Worth ISD s Southwest High School on the way to a 59-13 win. It was Southwest s homecoming game.
I don t think it s fair to ask any team to take a knee, because they ve been playing since they were in Pee Wee. This is what they were taught, this is what they re gonna do, said Kara Colvin, a parent of an Aledo band member.
She and hundreds of other fans were in the stands at the stadium in Fort Worth, wearing T-shirts that read I back Buc.
It was an ode to Coach Tim Buchanan, who was the target of a bullying complaint filed by a Western Hills parent after the shutout. Fans were still shaking their heads over the complaint, and most were more than ready to put it behind them.
This coach out here, if you knew him - and I do, very, very well - you wouldn t appreciate what happened to him last week, Odis Harris said. He coached my son, they won a state championship. You know, he was hard on my son, but my son needed it. I tell you one thing, he was fair, and he had the kids in mind.
He s just a good guy, he added.
Buchanan was cleared of the bullying complaint.
This week, Southwest avoided a shutout, scoring a touchdown in the first quarter. It was 14-6 at the end of the first quarter, and 42-6 by halftime.
