HOUSTON - A man was sent to the hospital by ambulance after a fire broke out at his home in southwest Houston early Friday morning.

The fire was reported just before 6 a.m. in the 5800 block of Lattimer Drive, according to the Houston Fire Department.

The first firefighters on the scene found heavy smoke coming from the home. HFD said the fire was confined to a closet, and the cause was under investigation.

One person in the home was injured, possibly as he tried to escape by jumping out of a window. His injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.
