HOUSTON - Police were called to investigate a bizarre crash in northwest Houston late Tuesday.

A car slammed into a horse, sending the horse into the vehicle s windshield. It happened around 9:15 p.m. on W. Little York near Phillips.

Houston police said the man behind the wheel claimed he was just driving along when the horse darted out in front of him. Police said it appeared the animal got loose from a nearby property.

We were going down the street, and the horse just shot out -- simple as that, said the driver. I don't even know what's going on. Someone's going to pay for my car.

The horse died at the scene.

A woman in the car suffered minor cuts to her face from the broken windshield, but no other injuries were reported.
